This weekend we went camping with a group from the North West Overland Society. What a blast... usually when we go losting and camping it's just us, by ourselves... it was fun to get together with other people who enjoy doing the same type of overlanding/camping we do.
Saturday AM sunrise... camping is the ONLY way I enjoy mornings. Otherwise, I am NEVER a morning girl.

You are here... :-)

Callie, guarding her family's chairs... there were 7 dogs on this camping trip... at times it was a little stressful, but we were very careful with her, and with one exception (where a cute little dog tried to play with her, and she showed that poor thing who was boss) she did ok, and absolutely LOVED it!! We don't often get into circumstances with her where there are a bunch of other dogs around--with her breed type, dog parks are not ever a good idea, but within reason she has to be able to be around other dogs, so it was nice to be around dog-understanding-people for our first experience like this with her... she did awesome with the humans, thankfully, so all in all we were glad... it's nice to have that experience, and know what we need to work on with her.

Tent-head! Callie thought she'd died and gone to heaven sleeping in such close proximity to her humans, and the girls were beside themselves with joy to have her snuggled between them. One in-head video I wish desperately I'd gotten on camera, and don't ever want to forget... Callie loved the tent... so, Kiki went in there, zipped open the windows, and played with her for a while. They came out, and Keira went off to play with the kids. Callie was sticking right by me, until we came around Rovey and she spotted the "open" tent... she full on RAN & LEAPED into the tent. Oh, my gracious. I sat down and laughed until I cried. The doors and windows were NOT opened, and she completely collapsed the tent, and actually broke a tent pole. It was awesome. Worth every penny of a new tent pole.

Someday!! Love their set-up! They were right next to us, so we got to be jealous in close proximity. :-)

Shangri La Campsite.

Camo-dog. We were able to take her off leash and let her run. We can't do that in our neighborhood obviously, and she NEEDS to run. She runs every night (what an impressive sight!) in our backyard, but it was fun to mix it up with a Pine Forest for her. On one walk with her I spotted a recent-kill deer leg, with foot still attached. Pretty sure, judging by the tooth marks that was a recent kill for a mountain lion... It was un-nervingly close to camp. Thankfully we're a pretty loud bunch, so probably scared all wildlife away, and I'm sure it could have happened before we even got there.

Debris, as always, made a new friend. Thanks L, for being so sweet with her!

Nothing like chillaxin' upside down in a chair.

On one hike Frank took the camera, and got a picture of this cool old sign standing in the middle of the forest...

Our SMALL campfire.
Saturday night sunset from camp, gorgeous. Imagine the smell of hot pine... even better.

On the way in to camp we were driving like maniacs trying to get there before dark. So, on the way back out we took it a lot slower... and got out and took pictures of attractions along the way.

There are so many odd and random memorials and such like this in the forest around here... so interesting.

And, just a few more top-of-the-world views. Pictures can never do them justice, and yet still I try. :-)

When we got home, the dog climbed on the couch, and has not moved since. She is BEAT! I had Kiki and Debris take a shower and put their jammies on, and we're just relaxing and regaining our momentum for a busy, fun, family filled week ahead.
Thanks to all the NWOS bunch for a great time!! We can't wait to do it again!
Glad you had lots of fun--can't believe you took time to post before running off on the next adventure! Does the dog go with you for the wedding too?
ReplyDeleteThat looks like great fun! Loved the visual of the dog leaping "into" the tent, and the sunset shot from camp, and the top of the world shot... great pictures thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great time!
ReplyDeleteThat last sunset picture was astounding! Gorgeous! I love camping just for the sunrises and sunsets...there's nothing to compare it with. Sounds like you've had a great summer full of "losting" adventures!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a GREAT TIME, Naomi!! I haven't camped in a big group like that for years. SO MUCH FUN and boy did you guys pick a gorgeous place. And was it Frank's idea to get a camo dog? Is that perfect or what? Oh, BTW, I noticed he stopped following me. Was it something I DID or DIDN'T say? lol I didn't even know until I looked last night while making my post about possibly hitting 200 soon. I was going to write about him being number 100 but he was gone!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm so glad you guys do all this with the girls. And I'm so glad we're a camping family to. There's nothing like it, is there? What GREAT memories.
(Sorry to be so late in coming around. The new blog issues and focus has me a tad crazed! And sleepless!)
HI GIRLS!!!!!
Your dog is so cool, I just have to say. And those camping pictures look so fun. It sounds like fun to go camping but there's no way I'm headed out in this heat. It feels like I'm sitting IN a fire when I step outside, so I don't think I'd enjoy sitting next to one right now.
