When plans for this weekend fell through, we decided to head up to Naneum Ridge again today, and see what we could see. What we saw the most of was hunters... hunting camps GALORE!! It was insane how many people were up there. But, we worked our way past them... mucking through a lot of mud, and doing a lot of rockhopping, which always makes for a day that is much more fun. The lovely thing about where we live (and probably actually almost anywhere in the world) is that you can visit the same place four times a year in the different seasons, and see something new each visit... for us this time, the trip up Naneum Ridge was absolutely glorious due to the Tamarack Pines.

It's so weird to see a coniferous tree change colors in the fall, but it is absolutely breathtaking when the sunlight hits a hillside of them.

From the top of Mission Ridge...

A valley view, way off there in the distance...

The Enchantments-with a little fresh snow!

I think I should have a house at the very top of Mission Ridge, so I could look at this all day. :-) Ok, maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea.

Not only because I'd get nothing done, but because the wind chill is INSANE! It was only 36 degrees up there today, and my hands were so cold they were in pain in just a few minutes... it was amazing.

Then we came back down Colockum to Torpiscan (spelling? I can never remember)... this may be our picture of the year, if we were to hold a family picture awards ceremony... isn't it cool?!

Running in the wind...

A view, everywhere you look...

My guy. :-)

Me and a happy Calypso...

Who LOVES it up here... it will give your nerves a rattle the first time she dives off a cliff right in front of you. I swear that dog is part mountain goat... I've never seen such agile rock hopping.

Getting blown backwards in the wind...

Rover--Man--Dog :-)

Family picture with a very muddy Rovey, and the help of a handy rock.

A cool pic, I couldn't resist taking...
What a lovely Autumn day!
Tamerac Pines, so that's what those are! We just came back from southern OR. over Mt. hood and I kept thinking they were dying fir trees. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful...I love the family picture that finally includes Rovey=)Glad you had a great weekend. Auntie G
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day and area! ...that ninth shot gave me the willies, though :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL Gramma G--that shot would have really freaked you out if youd seen us setting up for it. Frank stood in front (!!!!!) of Rovey and had me drive forward until we were on the rocks he wanted--and of course I had to give it gas to make it go over the rocks, so it was taking quick footwork between the rocks and the gas to get it where he wanted...needless to say I was praying my foot wouldnt slip off the brake onto the gas the whole time. It was scaring me so bad, I finally made him move so I could just drive it and not worry.
ReplyDeleteOh, goodness, I am SO thankful I wasn't there! I would have taken a looong walk in the opposite direction while you guys messed with that edge of death.
ReplyDeleteLove the Rovey shot!
