The first night was not only our 10th anniversary, it was also the night of the Perseid Meteor Shower, also we were the only people at this campsite on this night, which was quite nice. So, after the kids went to bed, we took our chairs out and enjoyed the amazing sky... I should also mention that as I twisted and maneuvered to eventually end upside down in my camp chair, my arm came to be resting on the ground. A little chipmunk mistook it for a tree, and climbed up it. I don't know if you can hear a tree fall in the forest, but I'm here to tell you that if a girl screams in the forest in the middle of the night, you can indeed hear it. :-) We (meaning Frank) did a 30 second exposure to try to catch a Meteor, but no such luck. Anyway, it was an amazing show.

Going Losting XIV
Thursday we went up the Glacier Peak Wilderness Area to go camping. We ended up in an actual camping site (BLECH! and BOO!) but other than that it was a really fun trip, and to be fair, the campsite was quite lovely, we just aren't used to camping with other folks. It's like a hotel room without walls, and we find it to be weird. Anyway, Glacier Peak Wilderness is a beautiful, lovely, spectacular spot. I'm hoping we can backpack it someday. I've got laundry, Jam ingredients and pickled bean ingredients coming out my ears, and approximately 190 pictures from this camping trip, so this post will be very picture heavy, and I think for my own sanity's sake (and possibly yours) I'm just going to have to divide it up into two posts this week. Anyway, shall we proceed?

I dunno how she got to be so big. *tear!*
The really old log jam on the creek behind our campsite.

Another spot right behind our campsite. Logs everywhere, shallow creek water perfect for kids to run through, rocks and mud galore. Childhood perfection. My kids were hesitant at first about running on logs, but...
I felt compelled to coach them, in mostly a NOT Drill - Sergeant fashion. Haha. By the end of our time there, they were doing pretty good. This pic is included to show that they made it across the creek, and also that Frank caught a lovely rainbow in this shot. I had to go rescue Brie from this spot, because the mud was "sucky mud."
Friday we hiked three miles with the kids, just getting them used to the idea of hiking... so we can wrangle them into backpacking in a few years. These are my peeps.
There's creeks everywhere you look up there.
We had a creek crossing or two on this trail.

Yeah, 30 second exposure here too, and set the camera to snap 10 pics at a time, and NOTHING! But seeing your star pic makes me realize how many we still don't see here! We've got to get out farther from the city, next time. And where's the pic of the chipmunk?? I think I would've passed out from the fear of not knowing what it was that I felt those first few milliseconds.
ReplyDeletePark looks beautiful, and your girls, even more-so. You're a blessed Momma.

Yes, I want to go there. One day. I will. Beautiful, breathtaking. GORGEOUS.
That is all.
Beautiful! It looks exactly like the place U.Dan and A.Gwen took Holly and Greta and I when we were younger.
ReplyDeleteNice! great pics!
ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous! We dislike campgrounds, too. Sounds like a fun trip and Happy Anniversary-love that there was a meteor shower!
ReplyDeleteWonderful to start reading your blog Naomi! To see this land is to love it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Looks like so much fun!
