A Road Trip Story

I will be on blogging break until the girls and I return from vacation. In the meantime, I thought I'd share with you one of my most memorable road-trip stories.
It happened when we were moving to Wenatchee. And, we were driving between Vancouver, WA and Wenatchee almost every weekend. Sometimes as a family, sometimes just the girls and me, sometimes just Frank.

So, one weekend the girls and I were driving along, down 18 south of Seattle. We were trying every possible route to see which one was the best at this point. This was the route I was clocking for this trip.

My husband will tell you that I am a champion thrower-upper. I've never actually gotten food poisoning, because I always throw it up before it makes me sick. Much to his dismay, our girls have inherited my uncanny ability to randomly refuse food after eating it. We also get carsick.

So, barrelling down 18, Debris says, "Mommy!!! I feel sick!!"

I, being a quick-thinking mother, still barreling down the freeway, and I should admit, somewhat smug with my quick-thinkingness, quickly threw the ice out of a fast food cup, handed it back to her, and said, "Ok, sweetie, throw up in the cup."

She did.

Still barreling down the freeway.

Now, my Debris is a very particular child. She ALWAYS takes things at face value, and does EXACTLY as instructed, when instructed, and should she feel so inclined. This has caused problems with phrases like, "Use your head!" for example, but for the most part it's a pretty awesome trait, as I can give her really clear instructions, and she will follow them perfectly.

So, knowing her particularness, I wanted to make very sure that she would do as instructed and the throw-up-cup would end up not getting dropped in the course of making it up to the front of Rovey, and, I was still barreling down the freeway, so when she was done, I said, "Good Job Sweetie. Now, I need you to CAREFULLY put the throw-up in Mommy's hand." and I reached my hand behind me to take the cup from her. Still barreling down the freeway.

And, she did. She VERY CAREFULLY POURED the throw-up in my hand.

And, barreling down the freeway, I used wipes to clean the mess up.

I shall never forget that particular happening, nor do I wish to. You can't make this stuff up.

And, now after that lovely story, I leave you with one of my favorite photos of Icicle Creek.

  3. Haha, great memory, seriously!! I love those types of stories. Big car sicko's over here, too. I'm fine, but Jeremy and the babies? Forget it. I'm still amazed that I don't keep a constant stash of barf buckets and towels in the car at all times! I will for seasons, but then the car gets cleaned out and I forget to put it all back until that fateful day comes again when all they have are their hands to throw up into. Glad you posted this, because the backseat is currently empty!!

Enjoy your vacation sweet friend, and take plenty of pics!!

  6. You did that without screaming? I would've screamed and probably scarred my kids for life, psychologically speaking.
