Sage Hills Hike

With the craziness of life and household projects and weird weather, we haven't been able to do our usual weekend camping trips yet this year like we usually do. So, we've been assauging our need for outdoor time with local hikes and walks and generally just making it a point to be active outdoors on a daily basis, or at least whenever we can.

This hike was one of those times--the girls and I met up with our friend Hermione, and hiked a section of this area.

The Sage Hills area is just west of Wenatchee, on the north end of town. It's a lovely spot, and I'd imagine it would be even lovelier in May when the Balsamroot is blooming--I meant to take the girls and hike it in May, but the weather never coincided with a day off for me. So, it was delightful at the end of June as well.

The rough road that winds it's way up to the starting point. Fun! The view from most places on the hike.

The beginning of the hike... this area is open to hiking, trail running, horse riding and mountain biking. It's closed September through April, and a lot of it is on private land, and privately maintained, so it's pretty important to treat it with a great deal of care and respect. It is a lovely gift to those who are inclined to use it.

The sage is tall and thick here.

Moving here is when I fell in love with green and blue. The colors are electric in the springtime. We're still pretty green due to the crazy amounts of rain we had this spring. It's slowly headed towards our usual summertime brown right now.

Taking a break.

We ran into a lizard and a bull snake on this hike. No pics, because I was too busy not freaking out.

At the top of the parking area they have some neat signs from the viewpoint.

Sign close-ups for ya!

If you ever wanted to know the names of the peaks you can view from Wenatchee...

Ah, yes. Unforgettable bliss.

And, home for summertime green tea.

Have a wonderful Independence Day Weekend!

  6. So vividly green for what I remember the area being like in summer! Nice bonus to all the rain :)

And I would have been thoroughly disturbed by the snake. Probably exiting the hills posthaste!

  7. looking at those pics reminded me of a hike we took near Crescent Bar once... and YEP.. SNAKE is the first thing that came to mind!! I don't hike like that very often (since my 20's...) I'd rather hike with bears (kidding but that is where we tend to hike...lol!!) ;) well... bk... our little Sammy is not the best of hikers with low vision and low muscle tone... hiking now means a flat beach walk... ha ha..only half true...we do trails every year... he is getting braver on trails ... wider trails...are happier trails! LOL.. anyway.. beautiful views!! ;)

  10. Pictures like this create a huge longing in my heart for Johnny to transfer to the Carson Valley Starbucks Roasting Plant... Very similar serenity and terrain.

Alas- my parents and in-laws would kill us and we'd never be able to enjoy the mountains then. LOL

    Maybe one day....
