Interjection with moving update before proceeding with vacation post from what feels like forever ago, but due to stubbornness I insist upon fully cataloging our overlanding/traveling adventures, even if no one is reading them.
The to-do list got about 40 things knocked off of it this week, with the help of my momma. Forging ahead, and pretty close to done with all that needs to be accomplished here before moving the focus to our new location, and getting started on to-do lists there. I think another week should do it. :-)
Ok, so back to the vacation catalog. One of the things that we definitely wanted to see while we were in that area of Oregon was Crack-in-the-Ground. Crack-in-the-Ground is rather lamely named. But, it is SO SO cool!! If you are anywhere near the area, I highly HIGHLY recommend checking it out. It's amazing. We started out in the hot hot sunshine.... and you descend into this crack in the ground it gets blissfully cool and dark enough that your eyes get a rest from the intense sun, but not so dark that you can't see.
The textures are amazing...There's a lot of boulder climbing, up and down, and maneuvering through the huge rocks. I would be willing to bet that EVERY person whose ever gone in the Crack-in-the-Ground prays at some point that no earthquakes happen while they're in it... the delicate way the HUGE rocks are positioned is a little unnerving.
The tiny people in the picture below give you a bit of perspective as to the hugeness of it all.
Lovely blue skies above.
Over two miles long, it takes quite a while to get through. But, it doesn't really get old. It's quite awe inspiring.
We played just a bit here and there with climbing up the sides as much as we could.
My children, who look so thrilled to be in a picture with me.
Next, Derrick Cave! And then we'll be done with the our Oregon adventure posts!
oh cool place! yeah, i would be freaked out about earthquakes!
ReplyDeleteI have been reading all your vacation posts and loving the bee-you-tee-ful pictures and dreaming of the day when we'll be able to do that stuff again! I've just been too lazy to do any commenting. :)

ReplyDeleteWow, incredible!! I can just imagine how tiny you must feel when surrounded by such grandeur. I love feeling tiny. Reminds me that there is someone much, much bigger than me, controlling all of this craziness. Beautiful pics!

ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to see your pictures of the OR vacation. There are so many amazing places out there to see! For the record, I kind of like Crack-in-the-Ground. It's a good, self explainable name. ;)

ReplyDeleteBrilliant. :) Sounds like a late night camping trip full of park rangers trying to name the park :) LOL
Super dooper cool though. I would love to see something like that one day.
