Going Losting V

Saturday we went Losting. We traveled paths we've wanted to see ever since we moved here, but for some reason just have never turned down those roads before. So, it was a good time. We traveled up to Palisades... which is at the bottom of the Moses Coulee. Moses Coulee is SO cool. If you live in Washington, I believe you must see it at some point. Totally worth it. But that's just my Coulee lovin' self's opinion. The landscape is impressive, and the Basalt formations are amazing. (This link has a lot of interesting info, and I think it's worth the time, if you're willing to read through a bit of propaganda to get to the interesting, good stuff!) Oh yeah, baby! :-)Gorgeous! Could use a little Photoshop I guess, so you could tell the sky was blue, and not freakishly white. Oh well.Told ya there'd be a few columnar basalt pics. :-)It's already pretty dry and dusty.And, one more. I think this one's my fav.We spotted some wild animals at the south end of Jameson Lake. Ha ha. If you look closely at this pic, you can tell the cow was peeing in the same water it was drinking in. That pretty much made our day.

After that trip we still had time. So we ate lunch in Wenatchee, and headed up Burch Mountain on the west side of the Columbia River. We were originally going to hike at the top, but it was still covered in snow, and we really would have needed snow shoes (not to mention Jackets!) to do it any justice. At 4,000 feet, it was pretty cold and windy up there!

He was pretty muddy after rolling through the mucky-muck, or the gooey snow, as Kiki and Debris called it.

The snow, the spring blossoms, and the pine tree smell will perk a body up on any given day. The sunspots are just a total bonus!

Not to mention standing on a ridge, and seeing the Cascades to your west...And the Cashmere Valley...And then looking over to the east, and seeing the Columbia River, East Wenatchee, Badger Mountain, and the Waterville Plateau... (this picture joined my top fav pics of all time!) Always gotta have a few gratuitous Rovey shots in these posts! And another rear view mirror shot! And, Sagebrush Silhouette!Driving back down the mountain...I know the Forsythia means spring for so many in the Pacific NW, but here for me, I will always look for these guys over the sagebrushy hillsides. It is Arrowleaf Balsamroot, and it is gorgeous!Especially against the green hillsides. I know, when you think arrid desert, you think brown. But when you live here, and you get the opportunity to wander around in it, it's amazing to stand in the middle, and see all the amazing shades of green, with wildflowers in the spring, and then in the summer to see all the shades of brown, and the different flowers that bloom in the summer as well. God's creation is simply amazing, no matter where you stand.
