So, spring is blooming to life slowly but surely here in the Wenatchee Valley... and, my fabric choices and sewing are reflecting that. I've got quite a few projects lined up... I actually sat down and listed them out last week, which really helped me to feel more organized. The thing about lists is that usually I end up sewing a few additional formerly unlisted things here and there as inspiration strikes, as this blog post shows.
So, a few short weeks ago, I commented on
Sis Boom's blog--Jennifer Paganelli is easily one of my very favorite fabric designers. And, she has a delicious new line of fabric out called So St. Croix. And, I've been drooooooling over it--and not gonna lie, totally trying to figure out how I can squeeze it into my current line-up of projects. And she did a fat quarter giveaway of So St. Croix, which I did not win. And, I may have commented, expressing my extreme dismay at not winning. Well, bless her sweet heart, she contacted me, and offered to send me a couple fat quarters. Now, we should be quite clear here... I would have been THRILLED with a couple of FQ's. But, I nearly wet my pants when I opened a box, and saw that she had sent me four yards of her amazing fabrics, as well as one FQ. So, you know I had to do something really special with them... :-) By the way, it was so inspirational to use fabric that someone else picked out. I have no idea why, but it really worked for me. So, this is what I've done so far...
One of my friends on facebook did a status update the other day that she was putting up her summer curtains. And, I was immediately filled with curtain envy. WHY HAD I NEVER THOUGHT OF SUMMER CURTAINS!?!?!?! Genius! Have I mentioned that I have a curtain obsession?! Especially Cafe Curtains, I cannot resist them. It's nearly impossible (for me) to take good pictures of windows, so this is the best I could get to show you my new, gloriously green and sunshiney summer cafe curtains! **swoon!** Green is my new favorite color...and this is the perfect green. If there is such a thing. (as well as my baking soda filled apothecary jar, which fills me with glee as well!)

The best part of these curtains is that my sweet daughters fell in love with them as well. I hung them after the girls went to bed last night, and they both flipped out with excitement over the new curtains when they woke up. Perhaps they inherited their mother's curtain lovin' bone?! Glory hallelujah.

And, I made springy twirly skirts for the girls, complete with tulle-ing and mismatched button tucks all around on the over skirt. They fell in love with the pink, and requested that I show off as much pink as possible, so I made them a little bit longer than I probably would have otherwise. I am pleased with how they turned out at the longer length tho, and it will be more practical for keeping their little acrobatic tushes covered. Yes, we are looking a little Kalaidascopesque today.

While taking these pics, I happened to glance down at myself. Does one orange sock, one red sock and shoes that should not even be worn with socks, not to mention a striped neon yellow sweater constitute insane?! Should I mention that I also forgot to brush my hair?! No? Ok.

The girls thought they should be allowed to pose by Daddy's car... code name Bullet. Kiki is wearing her very favorite Tinkerbell shirt, hence her tummy is almost always showing. I have tried to get rid of that shirt three times now... yeah.

Getting ice cream cones at Bountiful Fruit today, they were so darling...

And, to prove that I am checking things off my list--I got one summer dress for myself done. Hopefully one of three. I've had this fabric for almost 1.5 years now, so slowly working my stash down to a manageable amount. It is floor length, and the ruffling at the neckline I added totally charms me. I have to say, after making myself dresses, I'm not really sure how I'm ever going to buy one again, because they fit so perfectly, and are so comfortable.

So, thank you so much to
Jennifer, who totally has brightened my world the last couple weeks with her kindness, and her delightful fabrics. Next time you go fabric shopping, be sure to get yourself some--you won't be sorry!!
I've got a few more projects from these fabrics I'll be working on as I can schedule them in--and some of her fabrics will be showing up in my current projects for my 2--yes, TWO nieces I've got on the way... WOOOO HOOO! I'm gonna be an aunt!
naomi -- i love your and your girls' zest for life! i love it when people are interested in MANY things and it doesn't take much to please them :-). AND your sewing is awesome (i'm not a sew-er -- it's unfortunate that that word has its letters in the same order as something unpleasant -- but appreciate the talent it takes to be able to whip stuff up like nothing).

Beautiful curtains and dress! I think seasonal curtains are an amazing idea! I don't have any curtains up in my dining area yet, but I think when I do, I will have two pairs. I'm thinking burlap for fall/winter and something bright and airy for summer/spring. Something with flowers and turquoise in it.
ReplyDeleteI love that dress! I've never sewed for myself before because I am a funky shape and if it's not stretch it won't fit lol.
Oh I wish I had half your talent. I sewed a baby blanket for each one of my kids, past that I am totally lost. The dress is beautiful, and your girls are adorable.
ReplyDeleteWow congrat's on being an aunty twice over! Sewing is an awesome skill. Skirts are about my limit tho' anything more and it never fits me right. Very cool fabric!

Um, yes...I'm placing an order for bedroom curtains. Ha! Actually, my husband makes awesome curtains. Should that shame me, or make me proud? I'm going to just claim pride.
ReplyDeleteYour spring curtains are ADORABLE.
Your girls are ADORABLE.
And your new summer dress is ADORABLE.
You're so crafty, in a really good way. Please sprinkle some crafty dust on me, k? Thanks.
Oh, and congrats on being an Aunt! Are there twins in the works????
ReplyDeleteJust Jenn: I KNOW! I feel SO guilty for getting what I whined for! My kids know if they start whining they're really not going to get what they want. But, I'm excited enough to make up for it.
ReplyDeleteLeAnna: You're cooking a baby. I didn't do any craftiness when I was cooking babies. :-) And we have one niece coming on my side of the family, and one niece coming on Frank's side of the family. :-)
Aw, how cute! I wish I was talented like that!
ReplyDeleteReally love the dress. Dresses always look extra cute when I'm breast feeding and can't use them : ) The skirts for your girls are wonderful.
