Gone Fishin'

Tuesday we decided to go fishing. Frank had the whole week off, so it seemed like the right thing to do. :-) So, we loaded up the dog, and the poles and lunch, and headed off to Banks Lake to see what we could see. It was the first run with the three new fishing poles for Frank and the girls, so it was mostly a "get used to the fishing poles" sort of thing, as opposed to an "actually catch fish" sort of thing. Would have been nice if they coincided, but we went into it knowing that wasn't likely.

The dog surprised my socks off when she RAN pel-mel into the lake to try to bite the waves... I don't know if she's never seen them before, or if she's never been off leash around water or what, but since we got her we've been under the impression that she avoids water at all cost. I guess not. It was a blast to watch! Frank and the girls set up and the girls started getting lessons in how to use their poles...
and, snuggling together in the back of Rovey for warmth... it was SO windy, and cold. I am so glad I remembered to grab hats, as having a hat on your head on a windy day can really make a difference in your comfort, and in not getting those weird wind induced head colds.
Excuse me while I play with the random filter feature on my camera...

Ok, got that out of my system, thank you... :-)
The weather was really something else... all around us it appeared to be raining HARD all day long, and we were in sunshine the whole day. It made for some beautiful views, and I'm so glad we didn't get wet.

Bird!!!
Sunshine!!!
Cute kiddos!
Beautiful Lake!! We are so close to the Grand Coulee Dam when we are at Banks Lake, it's almost silly to not go there... it makes me feel a little jaded to realize that I'm that close to the largest cement structure and largest electric power producer in the United States, and we sort of shrug our shoulders and say, well, we don't have time to visit that amazingness today, haha!
But, to be fair, we have visited it several times before, and I've blogged all you ever need to know about it here. Bird!!!
We explored a few off-the-beaten-path type things here and there, and found a road that literally ended in the lake, very weird.
And then we headed down the Grand Coulee to meander in and out of the Lakes in the Coulee, which is a delightful little trip--I highly recommend it--and visit Dry Falls. Because, while we can skip the Grand Coulee Dam, we can't seem to skip the Coulee's themselves, and especially not Dry Falls... it's so amazing. I blogged about it in the post I mentioned/linked to above, and that post has a bunch of information on this incredible natural wonder... it's worth the read!!! This time we finally found the little dirt road that goes down inside Dry Falls, which was really cool. I may admit to saying a quick prayer while we were in there that the Banks Lake Dam would hold, because otherwise Dry Falls would very quickly become wet-falls-full-of-Banks-Lake-water, and Rovey doesn't float. :-)
I truly apologize, it took me SO LONG to narrow down my pictures for this post, and I finally just gave up. :-)
If you'll take a close-up gander at the below picture, you can see the visitor center, the gazebo, and the little bridge WAY WAY WAY up there being all tiny. That sort of puts into perspective how hu-largish Dry Falls is.
Have a great weekend!

  2. Oh my goodness, SO pretty! What a beautiful lake and area surrounding it. I'm coming to your house for vacation this year. Love the sun/cloud picture you took, does your camera have a built in cross filter that makes the rays like that, or was that pure photographic genius? ;)
