Our Independence Day Weekend, Part 2
So next we headed down into the canyon towards the Columbia River.
I'll call this one the Gratuitous Rovey Shot. :-)
Mushroom Rock... Range Rover Classic we were following. So, we would really love to have a Range Rover Classic, LWB (Long Wheel Base) someday. We've also managed to thoroughly panic our girls, because they've been informed that we will be buying a broken down Range Rover Classic when they're 14-ish, and it will be their car only if and when they can get it to run. This gives me so much fun! :-) They are so mortified and horrified already... apparently a sports car of some kind would be much more cool. I'm hoping that eventually works it's way around to excited, because I know they love our Rover. :-) Torturing my children truly is a highlight of my life.
The brush got a bit thick here and there.
Campsite by the river. This really puts into perspective how huge these hills are!
Our Mountain Goat Dog... who scales cliffs with ease.
So that's the Gorge at George Amphitheater up there at the top across the river. Lilith Fair was going on, and this was quite the party bar. We hiked out exactly this far to it, and then stopped. We really didn't feel the need to take our girls any closer to that party. :-)
Range Rover with a view.
Frisbee playing resulted in some tree climbing. :-)
When there's a creek, and you have Keens, ya gotta walk on down it!
Due to a dog that rolled in human poop... yes, lovely, I know, and my general germophope willy's from that, and then the fact that Debris woke up vomiting in the tent for no apparent reason, we headed home Sunday. I have no pictures of this trip because I was driving. We headed up to Naneum Ridge as far as we could get to see if we could get a good view of fireworks. We got up to 6100 feet... and then had to stop due to very large piles of snow. So, we found a cliff edge, and parked ourselves there. We watched the sunset, and then the fireworks around about town. Due to extreme coldness and exhaustion, and the fact that they don't start the town's huge fireworks until 10:15, we didn't stay quite that late. But we had a great time nonetheless, snuggled under sleeping bags.

Beautiful sites, as always. God's creation just rocks! I LOVE the picture of you three (well four including the pup!) girls overlooking the valley. Way to go Dad for capturing that one!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the grossness! Ew! I love the night shot of the city.
ReplyDeleteThe views looking down on all the pine trees are stunning!! That sounds fun, to find snow in July :)!
ReplyDeletePretty pretty! I just love it! Rolling in poo is gross, I don't understand why dogs don't get this. Sick. Ok, don't hate on me, but what is so great about a land rover as say opposed to a Jeep? I don't get it. These Rover Lovers? I mean, are they super special? I'm requesting a special post to help those of us who have no clue understand. Thanks again for being awesome.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are AMAZING! Such sweet memories for your fam!
ReplyDeleteCame to your blog through Gina's - I just thought your pics of your adventures were too great not to comment! I loved what you all did for the 4th. Sounded fun, poo and all. We live up in Plain (past Leavenworth) and I work down in Wenatchee, so I totally agree that this place we live is AMAZING. Anyway, hope you are enjoying this sunshine (finally) as we are!
ReplyDeleteI can't beLIEVE how much you guys travel and get away and what a bunch of happy memories you and the girls will have, not to mention great experiences. Human poop??????!!!! I thought it was bad enough when Minky found fresh cow pies from the free range cattle and had herself a heydey three times on our last camping trip!
ReplyDeleteHi GIRLS!!
