The Lolo Motorway, Part II
Saturday morning we woke up to a cold, cold morning. We're pretty sure it got somewhere in the neighborhood of freezing through the night... and we awoke to the playing noises of some cold, sweet kids who didn't bother with putting any manner of shoes or warmer clothing on before they left their tent. I love the morning sounds of happy kids when camping. :-) We got hats and gloves and jackets, and socks and some hot chocolate and crack muffins (the affectionate name we've given PW's marmalade muffins... they're not on her website, but they are in her cookbook. I dare you to try and only eat one.) and the guys got the fire going, and they were warmed up and were full in no time.
This campsite was SO sunbeam-ey!!! It was amazing. In the morning everywhere you turned you could see the sunbeams pouring through the cracks in the trees. Beautiful.
Morning camping baby... :-)
The creek magnet. Debris (barely) managed to stay out of it this time. Little Miss SE jumped right in though. This spot would be perfect for camping in August, when it's NOT freezing cold out!
Miss LKR caught herself a frog, so cute! For some reason we've never caught frogs... I don't know if it's because my girls don't have a brother, or if we've never camped somewhere where the frogs are readily available. Kiki wouldn't touch it, but Debris was quite intrigued, and might have held it given enough time.
Sharing with her sister...
His father dared him to do this... too cute. His mother will be using this for wedding slideshows, blackmail, and any other thing she deems useful over the years, I guarantee it. :-)
Girls are SUPPOSED to kiss frogs. :-)
No frogs were harmed in the making of this blog post. :-)
My Kage! :-)
The guys took the afternoon to explore and go fishing, and these pics are from that excursion... then on the way out we went the same way, so there will be another campsite picture or two, and then more of this spot and others.
This spot really is this breathtaking... When we are going losting or camping we always check the elevation of wherever we are. It's useful for knowing how cold it's going to be, and also it's interesting. Anyway, we recently watched a several part show on climbing Mt. Everest. The girls were so intrigued by the oxygen situation at such a high elevation. Debris really took it to heart, and was SO worried every time we climbed in elevation that we wouldn't have enough oxygen, and SO relieved that she could feel the oxygen situation getting better when we dropped altitude. It's too funny to hear a four year old stress over oxygen levels, I tell you what.

Haha, that is too silly--concerned w/oxygen levels. I'd probably be mildly freaked, too. I don't like even the thought of less air!
ReplyDeleteAgain, gorgeous shots! Hope you didn't get sick of all my FB comments. I would've commented on every photo, but didn't want you getting 91 notifications from me alone! :)
I especially like your girls' colorful hats.
ReplyDeleteSuuuuure no frogs were hurt : ) Looks like you had a ton of fun. Can't wait for part 3.
ReplyDeleteLove their hats!! and brrrrr....
ReplyDeleteand that is one big frog!! ha ha!
where were you camping?
This brings back fond memories of me camping when I was little, so much fun. Glad you all braved the cold okay!
ReplyDeleteAs always, I love your photos!
ReplyDeleteI think that's so cute about the oxygen levels...and the concern! Kids take things to heart, eh?
It's calling for snow here today---can you believe it!? I don't think we'll get it - but boy are we in for it - winter is coming for us!
Gorgeous! You take awesome pictures! Your talent has no end :)
ReplyDeleteOk, posting pics of your kiddos in stocking caps is just not cool. Do you know what the temp is here? 90. 90 degrees, and ya'll are wearing stocking caps.
ReplyDeleteI just had to get that off my chest! ;) Love your pictures, and looks like fun was had by all!
I love your sun beamy pics. They are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think it is pretty fabulous that she was so concerned. I think it is hilarious when little ones use big words and sound all adult...but not really. Love it! Those sun beams are breathtaking. You are camping, you can forget the one muffin rule. ;)
