Random Moments

Just a few pictures before labor day weekend of a few random moments around our home more recently. This week Frank has been in Alaska on a business trip... and the rest of us have been suffering from the end-of-summer doldrums. Now, we don't much like the heat here in this household, so none of us are ever sorry to see summer go. Basically we're all just waiting, and I get asked at least once a day, "Mom, is it winter yet?! When is winter going to be here?!" so, we're all a little grumpy due to this summer business. :-) Also, the kids have had yet another cold, and the dog has been really sick this week too. Anyway, my point is that we have done nothing exciting like I was hoping to do for this week-hopefully we'll be making up for that next week. :-)

But, the house is clean, and I've checked a few organizational things off my to-do list. Yay! This is a huge accomplishment for me, as I'd rather light myself on fire and jump in a vat of gasoline than organize anything. The girls have been helping me with the household stuff, so there is always a small (large?!) victory, even in the midst of the blah-ness. While we aren't doing school yet--although we will start soon, I've been focusing the past couple months on making sure they help me around here... and they're doing great. I'm so thankful for them ... they are delightful little people, and while I hope it doesn't come too quickly, I am looking forward to when they're old enough for me to not just be their mother, but also their friend.

On the Rag Quilt I made for myself recently, the girls each sewed a row of squares for me. I love those rows. I love everything about this picture... the intense concentration, the little foot, the color coordinated leggings and shirt (every day she's color coordinated like this--yesterday it was a red t-shirt with red leggings.) Sewing is not enough for this one... no, she must open the machine, and know how it works.
She loves to thread the needles for me... in fact, I'm not really allowed to thread it myself anymore, unless I sneak one in while she's not looking, and somehow she always knows when I do that. :-)
And, a lovely double rainbow...
Sometimes when the clouds are just right, we end up in this deep shadow, and then the sun sets on the mountain behind us and it's crazy illuminated... I love it when this happens.
Kiki playing the guitar with Daddy... we need to get her a small guitar. Another picture that I just love everything about. The focused concentration, the fingers, the fact that she's sitting in the rocking chair that belonged to my dad when he was a little boy...
Me, playing in Photoshop... :-)
Sore fingers, but happy girl... It's looking like she might have inherited her father's skill at picking up an instrument and learning it by herself. I don't have the patience or dedication for that, but I admire it so much. (Not that we're not planning on giving her lessons, to be clear.)

Debris and Callie, snuggling on the floor, standard procedure.

We're off to get our guy from the airport in just a bit, we can't wait--silly story--his plane leaves Seattle just a few minutes before I leave my house to pick him up from the airport--6 miles away, so weird. Have a lovely Labor Day Weekend!

  5. Eeee!! I love that pic showing her little foot on the pedal. So sweet!! Great pics, all of them. I wish I tapped into the labor potential around here. I forget to ask them, or, I figure it would get finished quicker/cleaner if I did it myself. But I'm getting too old to do all this work solo!

  7. We're just starting to learn how to sew this fall...looking forward to it! I wish I was as knowledgeable as you are! ;)

In the second to last photo of Debris with Callie, she totally and utterly looks like you - wow! Sometimes it's amazing what a change of angles does to a person's appearance.

We're looking forward to fall too. Somehow, summer just isn't all that it's made out to be!
