Everything is more fun with my Stister(s).

This is what Kiki told me the other day, when I told her to do something by herself. How sweet is that? Turns out she's right...

I walked under a tree this week, and caught sight of this lovely view, I had to share it:

What a week so far, and not in a bad way. My stisters, Ten and Caca visited, and helped me finish up my canning. I enjoyed doing it, but at the same time, I am very glad to be done. My home is traumatized, and needs a deep cleaning and organizing. Ok, maybe canning has nothing to do with that, but you get the idea. So, yesterday we visited Leavenworth, just for fun and Gelato.

Here's some snapshots of our day...

And, I wasn't able to get a good snapshot of Kiki eating Gelato, but I did get a few sort of good ones, so I'll share them.
Kiki LOVES Gelato. I kid you not, she ate her Limoncello in short order, then proceeded to eat a lot of Caca's Mango/Panna and a lot of my Panna/Gianduia, before finishing up with at least of half of Debris' Mango. We're all a bit Gelato crazy, but she's REALLY Gelato crazy. Notice her discarded Gelato bowls scattered about.

So, speaking of Leavenworth, this week my children may have joined the Great Wall of China in the category of things that can be spotted from the moon. See, winters are COLD here. So, when I found out we were moving here in January, I decided to get a jump start on wintertime expenses, and buy good thermaskin silk long underwear for all of us. But now, as the leaves turn golden, and autumn announces its coming with cool crisp nights, it came time to purchase any outerwear we all need to get through the winter in a warmish fashion. As I started researching what this was going to cost me, I decided that I was not going to be paying over $200 per toddler, for outerwear. As I am also NOT a fan of regular Goodwill visits, I decided I would have to meet somewhere in the middle of absurdly expensive, and going to overpriced Goodwill once a week until I find what I want. Enter Overstocks! So, as you'll see below, I was able to outfit my children in high quality waterproofed, warm winter wear for a great price. $160 for snow pants for both of them, a Jacket for Kiki, and insulated waterproof mittens for both, as well as snow boots for myself, for what I consider a great monetary price, and only a small price as far as dignity is concerned, what with the color extremes I had to buy to get appropriate sizing. We don't really have much dignity to start out with, so we're cool with that. See, anytime I shop at a store online, I make it a point to go into the overstocks/closeout section first. You'd be amazed at what you can find for great discounts. I got all of this on Lands End, added up this would have cost me in the neighborhood of $400 if I'd paid full price for all.

Debris can wear Kiki's coat from last winter. It's not the same quality, but snow here isn't as watery as it is in The Couv. Besides, last year this was her opinion of snow in general.

This was Kiki's opinion:

So, if Debris decides she likes snow, and I notice her getting colder and wetter than Kiki, I will buy her a better Jacket. But for now, we'll stick to this one, and layer her well underneath it.

Well, I hear the dryer buzzing, and by children hollering, so I better get back to doing the fun daily things that need to be done around here. Plus, I have a project I'm working on, and I'm desperate to post pictures, but I have to finish it first.

  1. Good job! I think the colors are fun together, kids are so boring these days with all their pinks and blues!

If you are worried about waterproofness you can go to Walmart or a similar store and check out the boot/shoe care shelf. Usually somewhere near the bottom they have a huge aerosol can of waterproofing spray that is the same cost as the tiny shoe waterproofing spray- $4, and it is all purpose. You can do several coats and pairs of mittens with this as well as other items. Winter clothes that are washed a lot loose their waterproofness sooner, so either ignore the dirt or spot wash and spot spray with the waterproof spray.

Blah blah blah :) Maybe you knew all this already!

  2. Hey! Thanks, that's a good idea. I was definitely planning on NOT washing these clothes, but usually I start out that way, and then can't handle the spots, pnut butter stains, etc, and end up washing them anyway. I'll have to check on that spray, and use it. At the very least I could use it on Debris coat, It's a warm nice coat, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have much more than minimal waterproofing--pretty much what you get for $30 or so. Kiki's new one was originally a $100 lands end snow coat, (I got it for $30!) and I've bought those for myself before and been very pleased with them...

  3. Ah, Gelato! Reminds me of working at the ol' cafe in Newport Beach, making fresh batches of Gelato each morning:) May I suggest Pistachio and Baccio, if you're into "nutty" flavors! Mmmmm...I used to eat spoonfuls of it, as it came out of the machine:) I also remember spilling an entire can of MINT flavoring on the floor, which happens to be fluorescent green,...and the whole coffee shop smelled so strongly of mint that it burnt your nostrils! haha We'll have to go to Leavenworth, even if it's not Christmas, when we visit!

  4. That's funny, we think of you every time we go into that shop... I'm so in love with the Panna... I've tried so many flavors, and the Panna with some sort of chocolateyness is my fav. I love hazelnuts, in fact, I really want a philbert (hazelnut) tree, so that's my current choice! It's interesting to me that my kids always pick out a fruity flavor. But then, of course, they eat mine, so maybe that's how they get both. :-)
