Something Momma would be grabbing if the house were on fire...

So, I write my lists on 3x5 cards. Not gonna apologize for it, as I have grown to hate sticky notes. They don't stick well to my fridge, and I lose them and they get hairs on the back of them and then they are yucky. I like a hefty 3x5 card, line-free please, and a magnet or a pin, depending on my choice of fridge or bulletin board for the sticking of the list. I have a decorative red and orange vase on my kitchen counter that holds a stack of 3x5 cards and pens, for handy jotting.

A couple months ago I began to notice that when I was working in the kitchen the girls would come in, climb up and sit on the bar stools at the bar, and talk to me and draw while I was cooking/cleaning. And I began to build up a little collection of sweet 3x5 sized drawings, usually made with my freezer-bag-marking sharpie I also had in my vase. Unfortunately I also began to build up a collection of permanent sharpie marks on my kitchen counter. But, I couldn't very well tell my girls to stop now, could I?! No way--the conversations were too sweet, and the pictures too precious. So, this week I set about getting them their own cute container, a pile of 3x5 cards, WASHABLE pens, and we went to Ross together and they picked out a photo album to hold all their drawings for display. ('Scuze the cow, they are all over the house, observing us constantly.)
And, here's just a few samples of drawings from the past month...
Kiki: A black snowman with his cat.
Debris: A family of Octopi.

Kiki: A family waiting in line at a restaurant.
Debris: A postcard from an island...
With writing on the back. Some of the cards will just have to be pulled out to see the back if need be. I couldn't find any photo albums that had clear pockets.

Kiki: A Caterpillar family.
Debris: A picture of Debris and Mommy having their morning snuggles. (AWWwwwww!!!!!)
Morning snuggles are of the utmost importance hereabouts. And Kiki's checklist of what needed to get done.
Since I've had blank paper sitting around for them to use in the past couple months, their penmanship and spelling have gotten noticeably better, as has their drawing. And, I'm always looking forward to see what they come up with next.

  1. This will be SO fun for them to have when they are grown. And fun for you to pull out 20 years from now, and sniffle over. What a great idea. And WHY don't they make photo albums with clear pockets????? I've run into that same problem.

  2. You could always grab a 3-ring binder with clear page sleeves (the kind you used to have to submit papers in for college classes) and make your own photo album once this one fills up. Then you can see front and back.
    Their drawings are darling!

  4. They are so cute, I love the fact that they are into the family theme! I have to admit some of the drawings at first glance appeared to me like an arrhythmia! Such sweet kids! Grammy
