Friday AM we awoke to a winter storm... it snowed until early afternoon, and we ended up with more than two inches of snow on the ground before the sun broke out and it started melting.
The dog was NOT impressed.

There should be a mountain here...

All my plants with their sweet spring shoots poking through and the spring blooms looked so pretty poking through the snow. I think they all survived.

The girls woke up, and put their mud-filled snow boots on over their jammies, and went out to play.

That night Papa and Gramma G came to visit us for the weekend, and we went to a Wenatchee Wild Game--the Wild is in the Playoffs, so that's exciting. It was the girls first hockey game, and they spent most of the time with Gramma, which was fine--almost like a date for us, haha! Thankfully, they both came down and sat with us for a bit so that we could explain the rules, and instill in them a sense of how IMPORTANT it all is. :-)

They insisted upon wearing skirts, I could not convince them that was not proper hockey game attire.

It was a good game. :-)

They won!! :-)

The next day we headed up the Entiat Valley to see if we could get to Silver Falls. Silver Falls is a beautiful 1.3 mile hike, I've blogged about it
here. Since the snow had fallen the day before, we ended up having to hike 2 miles in on the road to even get to the beginning of the Silver Falls hike. So, that's what we did. If we'd had Rovey along for the ride, we could have driven there. I get Rovey withdrawals when I go places in other cars, can you tell?! Anyway, it was a beautiful hike, and I'm glad we got the experience to walk on a road we normally drive, and if we'd driven to the falls it was still snow-covered and steep enough that I don't think we could have hiked it. So, we hiked TO the hike instead, it ended up being a four mile round trip hike, and while there was a lot of complaining by the children, they really did very well. If they'd been dressed better, they would have been happier, but they stepped in very deep mud in their snowboots this spring, and they are full of mud on the inside, so I didn't want them to wear those... I haven't figured out yet how I'm going to clean them out. Disgusting.
You didn't think I'd forget a pine tree picture, didja?! I'm three-for-three now, I'll have to see how long I can go posting a pic of pine trees in each post. Ok, maybe not.

Walking with Dad... Aw.

The beginning of the Silver Falls hike, I love these stairs! I need stairs like these in my garden someday.

The bottom of the falls.
You live in such a beautiful part of the world; the banner photo is great.
ReplyDeleteI agree, those stairs are beautiful. You better get right on building some : ) We're getting a little bit tired of the snow as well. It started up again last evening...but it's already gong this morning. And spring is here--in the form of violent wind : )
ReplyDeleteYEAH love those stairs and that last photo! awesome! and skirts to hockey?! well, at that age i probably would have done the same thing. haha.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, that last picture of the snow dusted mountains and green wheat field is just AWESOME. Ya'll are go-getters, for sure! Hopefully no more snow for ya, I'm sure you're ready for sunshine!

ReplyDeleteLove that picture of the green, green grass and the white snow! We had the same view out our window here yesterday with fresh snow on the mountains. The pictures of your snowy hike look well worth the cold wet feet ;)!!
ReplyDeleteNaomi! Just GORGEOUS! We were hoping that would hit us heavily but we only got a light dusting. What a great hike! And how DO you chip out dried mud from INSIDE the boots?

ReplyDeleteHi Naomi!
ReplyDeleteI'm an editor for TOS and just read through your article for "Camping With Molly." And that brought me here.
Love the article—you make me want to bring all my kids back home and go camping again (they're mostly gone now, ages 16-25)!
Love the blog. I'll be back to read more!
