A tip for Tuesday...

because I got nothin' else. It seems like I should have other stuff to blog about, but everything I've been sewing lately I can't take pictures of yet, because it's either not done, or it's a gift. So, anyway, here goes my fun "goofing with my new camera" pictures, including a handy tip for how to cut jalapenos without having to wear gloves, and also without making your eyes water everytime you rub them for the following three days. Because, let's face it. Who keeps gloves in their kitchen for cutting peppers?! Not me, that's for sure. And, we eat A LOT of jalapenos here... we love them muchly. So, I've gotten good at cutting them without touching any of the burny parts. :-) Here goes!!

Jalapeno, meet knife. Off with your top!!
Stab a paring knife into the jalapeno, all the way to the bottom. Gently use the paring knife to slice around the outside of the core a couple times, without cutting through the jalapeno itself.
You will be able to tell when the core is loose. You can check it a couple times like so, if needed, but it's very obvious when it's ready to pop out. I would like it duly noted that at this point my fingers have not touched any spicy parts.
Woo hoo! We have a loose core!
There's a few hanger-on-ers. But, we'll get them...
like so...
clean as a whistle. (What does that mean, anyway?! How is something that is blown into and has someone's mouth all over it, considered clean?!)
Bye-bye, core...
Now you can slice,
Dice...
and enjoy!
I've got some Rockamole Stew to make for dinner. Catch ya on the flip side!

  3. This makes my gastrointestinal tract hurt just looking at it. Haha! We aren't hally-payno kinda people, but I do love a tiny small bit in some pico or guac. I have a history with touching peppers and burning my eyeballs out of my head (practically) - my Grandma used to grow ornamental peppers, and one time I touched them all over and then rubbed my eyes. It was a bad day. Oh, and I'm emailing you back, I promise. No, really, I am.

  4. Hey Naomi,

You have a great blog that is very entertaining. I'm glad I finally checked it out.

We will have to stay in touch once swimming is over. I think our girls will have lots of fun together.

  9. So, seriously? That makes them un-burny? I had no idea. I mean I knew the seeds and membrane were hot but the rest is okay? Are you sensing my incredulity? Am I really safe in your capable hands?! Okay. I'm goin' for it.

    HI GIRLS!!!!
