The dog days of Summer
Well, we are all trapped inside our air conditioned house with a few weeks worth of temperatures over 100 degrees. Which makes for a little bit of crazy. I'm also hip deep in sewing projects for The Adventurer and Auntie Ten's wedding. So, other than getting to know our new doggie, nothing too fabulous is going on around here. I cannot wait for it to cool down a little bit so we can get back outdoors.
We are taking her for a walk each evening (and some mornings!) tho. Kiki considers her walk fashion to be of utmost importance. The hat and scarf are carefully chosen each evening.
Watching a movie...
The girls always come out of their room in the morning and sit on the floor in front of our Eastern facing sliding glass door to get their morning sun. Callie now joins them for this tradition.
She gets lots of love during these sunning sessions.
We're all in love with her jowls. (Not a sentence one should ever say about a human! Ha!)
I'm having fun spotting her bloodlines when she looks at me. All day long I think, "Cane Corso! English Mastiff! Rottweiler! Rottweiler! English Mastiff! Cane Corso! Cane Corso! Mastiff! Rottweiller!" What can I say? It entertains me. It could be that I do this because she follows me all over the house. I never realized how much wasted movement I did about my house until I had a dog follow me into every room, and just get settled down, only to have to get up again when I can't remember what I'm in that room for, and go to another.
We've come up with an absurd amount of nicknames in just a few days. The best are Kiki and Debris who sing, "Callie Ababwa" (as in Price Ali, Ali Ababwa, from Aladdin) and mine, "Caliente!!!!" which I like to say in my best imitation of a Mariachi style yell. Which, is not a very good imitation, I'm afraid.
We're very thankful that she is calm. She also seems to instinctively know that she can hurt the girls. She plays very sweetly with them, whereas with Garrett and me she definitely gets a little rougher.
"Cane Corso!" (see, can't help it!)
The dog has been spending an extraordinary amount of time standing over the AC vents in the house. We all have, actually.
And, this picture is on here for two reasons. Because Debris took it, much to my consternation. But, I thought she did a pretty good job. Also, to tell you that this dog really likes to sit on my lap. Which is a very strange feeling. But, her whole life, anytime Kiki sits on my lap, Debris comes along and snakes her way between Kiki and me. So, now, anytime Debris sits on my lap, the dog comes along and snakes her way between Debris and me. The ironic justice in that is quite amusing, methinks.

That is the greatest dog. The Spouse knew about her before me, because he read your blog on his Blackberry during a biz trip to California. He came home and said, "HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR DOG?!!"
ReplyDeleteSo cute - I'd say she's fitting into the family just fine ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you are still loving your dog! So many times people are going crazy during the first week : ) But she looks like the perfect fit for your family.
ReplyDeleteShe is such a love, you gotta like a good momma dog that knows how to pay with the kiddos, i love your girls hat and scarf, girls are soo funny!! lucky you!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like ya'll are enjoying the new addition!
ReplyDeleteOkay so I'm so in love with your dog. She is so cuddly with the kids, I'm impressed! Turk loves playing with kids & he also senses that he has to play easier with kids depending on their strength, but he's also scared of anyone under 4 because they tend to hit him for no reason, poor thing.
ReplyDeleteShe like a great dog with plenty of character to go around. What an awesome find! LOL, about her following from room to room and just getting settled before you remember something somewhere else. At least she probably doesn't whine like a frustrated 18 month old when his mommy's to busy like that. :D
ReplyDeleteCalypso - what a great name for a great - in more ways than one - dog! There's nothing like a pet you can enjoy as a family and trust with your children. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! She's great profile, eyes and very photogenic!
ReplyDeleteI think kids growing up with pets is just the best!
Cheers,
Anita
You definitely got a real winner, Naomi! What a beauty and that sweet face! You guys are the nickname types. She'll have 50 of 'em. JoJo does - one of which is Beavis Las Vegas. Don't even ask.
ReplyDeleteHI GIRLS!! Love your new DOGGIE!
Yaaaawwwnn... Not much "postable" material lately. I have a feeling there will be an explosion of activity come the second week of Sept.
ReplyDeleteI know! I've got nuthin'! But... after this weekend I should, and yep, the first week of September is going to be a doozy.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'd rather be a crazy dog lady than a crazy cat lady. :) CUTE dog, though!
