Hump Day Project

Throughout the history of man, good versus evil has been a common theme, both in real life and in art & literature. And, a common theme throughout most of the history of good versus evil has been, (drumroll, please!) the CAPE! A lot of games that get played around our house involve the classic good versus evil plotline, as well as any nearby object that can stand in for a cape like costume.

A few Cape Facts, according to the toddler division of this corporation:

You cannot be a superhero without a cape. It simply IS NOT done!

Capes make great dramatic entrances.

Capes make great sweeping hand motions done during announcements of gloom even more impressive and intimidating.

There's nothing like a cape when one is pretending to cry. It sweeps and puddles dramatically at a 2 or 4 year old's feet.

A sweeping cape will grandly punctuate an exiting statement.

Ummm, and in a pinch, it makes a great blanket for a dramatically howling naked baby doll.

Also, it can be used as a tissue when one has a stuffy nose.

Anyway, for the last several months around here, the cape-utilizing parties in our home have been making due with blankets of the appropriate cape-ish sort of sizes. But, when Caca was visiting us not too long ago, I took advantage of the possibility of glorious alone time, and ran to JoAnn Fabric to wander childlessly, dreamlessly and aimlessly up and down the aisles. It was great. And, what should I see on the clearance rack during my wanderings, but some great cape making material for a rainy day project. So I bought it, and today I pretended it was raining, and took a break from my other big project to put a few capes together for the superheros, supervillains, evil empresses and gloriously happy yet weeping princesses in our midst.

Haha, this pic cracks me up. They were seriously annoyed with me for interrupting their play to take this picture.

Debris makes a dramatic exit to "show her cape to daddy."

Kiki makes a dramatic exit to "go make a poisonous apple."

Even superhero's love their daddy's... Awwww....Perhaps this superhero should investigate why she cannot keep a pair of pants on throughout the day. Inquiring minds would like to know.

Ummm... is that thing on? Can I pose for you?I'm a scarily happy princess! The relaxed villain pose. Kiki LOVES to be the villain. Their capes are way more cool.Even super hero princesses need to rest...

And, what's great is that I have a skinnyish strip of this fabric still... I just love it. I shall perhaps have to make myself something smallish, like PJ shorts or something, after all my current projects are done, of course, and right about the time I'll hopefully need to be making quilts for some nieces or nephews! HINT!

  1. Nothing like the make believe to have lots of fun as a child! But according to Debris you need a horse to make the capes fully worthwhile! Grammy

  2. That's true, they've been fighting over their one stick horse quite a lot lately.

  4. I love the "hint". D and A are up next in line! The capes are awesome and the girls are as always dramatic and simply precious. I told Squeaky on the phone today that B and I are going to visit her and she said "I can't wait to see my boyfriend"! I laughed so hard I cried. Auntie G
