So, for the past gazillion weeks I've been working on painting, organizing and rearranging Kiki and Debris' room. Today, I am finally done! Yay! I actually finished painting and organizing last week, but then I had ribbon boards to make, and that ended up being ribbon boards AND cupcake wall art. So, here goes pics of it all.
Before:

Yes, I know it looks like I'm painting. That's because I'd moved furniture around and was doing prep work, and then I realized, hey, I should take "before" pics! I'm a planner that way.
During... Kiki and Debris discovered that closet doors make great stuffed animal slides off your newly stacked bunk beds. I try to pretend I don't know about all the other monkey business that goes on in a very unsafe fashion on those bunk beds. Their jungle would be complete only if I'd let them hang ropes from the ceiling.

And, finally, how it looks today! I'll admit, it's so matchy-matchy, it makes me feel a little twitchy. I'm not completely thrilled with it. But, I think that's because the colors are so intense, I couldn't think of a good way to pull a third, or fourth, if you don't count white, color in. The rest of my house is in bold colors, but not intense colors, if that makes sense. Also, this has such an intense pink, (blech!), it's hard for me to get overly excited. I don't mind pink in small tasteful doses. My kids both love it tho, so the pink was for them, and the green was for me. The very best (and worst!) thing about this paint job though, is that I painted all of the moldings and closet doors white... what a horrible chore that was! But, I'm glad I did it... I really can't wait to do that in the rest if the house. Normally I prefer wood, but this is fake wood, and it looks terrible--IMHO. So, I'll be glad to have it all creamy white. (I forgot to take pics of the newly painted closet doors!) The thing that I am very pleased with tho, is the green, it matches their sheets perfectly. I thought that was going to be a horrible color to match up, and I took the a scrap of the sheets into Lowe's and they had a color that matched it perfectly. Yay!

Pics of individual pieces...
The curtains... I got these sheets to stage their room in our Vancouver house to sell, I got an extra set to make curtains with for this house. I'm so glad I did! All that fabric has come in handy a few times!

Cupcake wall art, made with fabric scraps...

One of their ribbon boards.... These are a HUGE hit with Kiki and Debris.

More cupcake wall art... Debris, to be precise.

And, Kiki's...

Their reading nook/musical instrument playing area.

So, when I set these bunkbeds up, the matresses were in the beds the wrong way, so their heads are out at the end, instead of in the corner. I figured I'd fix it after I washed the sheets. I tried to fix it today, and the girls HAD A COW! So, I guess their heads will be sticking out. I started to just change it anyway, but then realized that the beds would be a lot easier to make this way. So I left it!

And, the best thing about their room being "pretty", and most of all, their toys being organized, is that I'm noticing they are spending A LOT more time in their room. Also, their messes seem to be confined to that room more. Makes getting other things done around here a lot easier.

Have a great weekend!
I love it! Very cute! I've been working on Chloe's room slowly, and will post pics eventually. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a FUN room - looks like the girls are lovin' it! You did a great job on the art and ribbon boards! Winter is a perfect time to get those indoor projects finished. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! I especially love the reading nook. I had so much fun setting up the different reading nooks in my classroom :) It reminded me of that. The perfect place to curl up with a good book for a few hours...oh wait, they're 4 and 3...maybe a few minutes. They seem to take some ownership with the new room--enjoy the honeymoon and do lots of fun things around the house while they are distracted!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE their room!!! Who gets the top bed? I cant wait until the one on the bottom bed figures out how to lift the top matress with their feet to annoy the one on top. Hmmmm...another fun thing for Auntie G to teach them!
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks great! and looks like lots of time and energy spent on it. Love the wall art. such a cute idea. I have the same problem with the "oh lets paint the bedroom" turning into a total redecorate, with all kinds of timeconsuming ideas popping up along the way. :) It is such an awesome feeling when you get it all done though. Turned out terrific. :) Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNice job Naomi, in about 20 months you can help me out! Give the girls a hug from grammy!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors, even the pink, tho i'm not usually a pink fan either. It goes well with the green color you chose, and that is a color I love but does not fit in with any of my current decor. Painting is so much fun, mostly the clean new look when it's all finished tho. :0) Great job!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! How fun for them to have a room that is all coordinated. :) I love green and pink together. Amelia's room is green and brown, good thing since she is going to have to share with a boy soon!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I like how you pulled it all together with the wall art and ribbon boards - it's right up my alley, with all the matchy-matchy stuff going on:) haha And, how fun for the girls to have their own space! Ah, the days of bunk-beds:) Sara and I never did anything crazy in them, but she did poke holes in the lining underneath my bed!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat with painting the base boards and doors...ours were white to begin with, but coated with years of grime/dirt and chipped like crazy....I've spent so much time painting door, after door...after door-frame...and I'm STILL not done....I swear, it's never ending!!! But, it does look nice after they are freshly painted...the white is so "clean"...

Ha! I just thought of something in regards to the bunk-beds...while Sara and I never got too crazy...Brooke and I may have;) Just be sure to securely attach the light fixture in their room (or buy a low-profile one), in case a pillow fight breaks out on the top bunk. I can still see the glass globe falling, in slow motion, to the floor...while Brooke and I froze in place...and as my parents slept in the adjacent room;)
ReplyDeleteMandy
Hahahaha..."Twitchy"! Really, it's just a wonderful room for them.
ReplyDeleteMandy, I remember that night...you two were so afraid of being in trouble...I was glad you broke it; we got a nicer fixture...thank you!
Oh, wasn't that the same night Brookie and you thought that it would be fun for you two to crawl out your bedroom window and walk around the backyard late at night?
Haha! Mandy... I actually had the bunkbed in a different spot, and walked in upon them beating eachother with pillows, precariously close to the sprinkler. (we have built in sprinklers here) Since the thought of having one of those explode, and douse my house in like 50 gallons of water was not appealing at all, I moved the bunkbeds.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments everyone... it definitely made me slightly less twitchy--now, on to the next room! Haha! :-)
How summery and girly! I would have loved that room when I was little. You did a great job with the painting and all the little extras, they must love it. :)
