Kidbits...

It feels as though nothing blog-able is going on around here. I'm just working on maintaining some semblance of order and cleanliness around here, while making on the girls dresses for Uncle B and Auntie G's wedding, which is taking up the majority of my creativity and time. That being said, they are turning out beautifully, and I can't wait to post pictures (after the wedding, of course). I'm very excited about them.

While we're immersed in day-to-day boring-ness, Kiki and Brie seem to be growing, at breakneck speeds. Here is an account of the interesting things they've said lately.

Kiki comes running to me, crying...
Me: "What's wrong?"
Kiki: "Brie sneaked-ed up behind me and tailgated me!!!!!!!"

In the wintertime, in most places, it is hard to find a clean car. With the copious amounts of de-icer used on our roads, that seems to be especially true around here. One sunny day in the beginning of December, while running errands, we drove past a car wash. Not one, but TWO clean, sparkling white cars were pulling out of the parking lot. Debris starts hollering, "Oh no mom!!! Look!!! Somebody spilled milk all over those cars!!!

Kiki, exiting the bathroom says with great satisfaction.... "The toilet was firsty, so I gaved-ed him a drink!"

Me: Debris, be careful with that! If you broke it, momma would cry!!!
Kiki: "We would cry too..."
Me: "would you?"
Kiki: "Yeah, cuz we were laughing so hard!!!"

Debris walks into the living room with nothing on, other than her underwear. She strikes a pose, and says in a very deep voice, "Momma, what do you fink of my policeman's clothes?

The other day, I caught Debris running around with nothing other than a pair of socks and her crocs on. (this is a common occurrence around here, and she gets very offended when you tell her to put clothes on.) Anyway, I said, "Debris, why aren't you wearing any clothes!?" She looks at me, very offendedly, and holds out her feet, pointing at the socks and crocs... "I AM WEARING CLOTHES!" very indignantly.

My mom makes this lasagna style casserole that is really good, basically it has ribbon pasta, a red meat sauce, and cheese. I don't know what other magic she works with it, but it is good. Kiki especially loves it. Long story short, I had some in the freezer, and we ate it the other night. Kiki asked for seconds by saying, "Can I have some more 'snakes wrapped in goulash' please?" It's the perfect description of this dish... not quite a goulash obviously, more of a ragout, but I am continually impressed with her broad knowledge of food! Makes a momma proud!

Debris walks into the kitchen and says, "Momma, today you may call me "My Highness!"

Kiki was sitting at the bar chatting with me while I was cooking the other night. "How do we swallow?" she asks. I gave her as good of an answer as I could. She was obviously thinking about it, just sat there quietly for a few minutes. Finally she says, "So, when we swallow a drink, does God get wet?" Needless to say, I had to swallow my snort rather quickly. Explaining how God wasn't physically in her heart, led to a conversation about the trinity, and so on and so forth. It was quite interesting.
As a side note, I'm beginning to wonder if Kiki is ever going to be able to remember the difference between 'diarrhea' and 'ballerina'. Boy, does that ever make for some interesting conversation. Poor Debris has been sick this afternoon. Now, fortunately, she had diarrhea. Why is that fortunate, you ask? Well, it kept her quite entertained, with the violent diarrhea fire hose effect. I've not (thankfully) had the opportunity to watch very many people do this, but I can bet that not too many of them giggle uproariously while doing it--it totally distracted her from the fact that her tummy hurt. Poor Kiki... a little while later I walked past the bathroom. She was sitting on the toilet with the most forlorn look on her face. "It's not fair!", she howled. "I want ballerina tooooooo!!!!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! These moments are priceless, I tell you.
The other day, Debris loaded the dishwasher all by herself. I mean, I walked into the kitchen, and the dishwasher was loaded. I was so impressed, I know you all are dying to see the inside of my dishwasher, so I took pictures.

The top:Not bad for a three year old, huh?! I'm really glad that my glass stuff survived... :-)

The girls have an ongoing debate around here...which is better... Vanilla ice cream, with chocolate sauce (Kiki) or vanilla ice cream, by itself. (Debris) It's so funny, because I've explained repeatedly to them that it is a matter of opinion, and neither one is right or wrong. They will not concede this point, and spend the entire time they eat their bowl of ice cream arguing over this. This is also the way it is with A1 sauce (Kiki) and BBQ (Baby-yoo) sauce (Debris). And, also they argue over the proper technique to "naked a banana". Kiki believes you should split the top, and then peel the peel down over the banana, probably like most folks do. Debris believes that you split the top only enough to cause the skin to break in one spot. Then, you split the skin all the way down in that one spot, and schloop the banana out whole, and proceed with holding the naked banana in your hand, and eating it.

Even when life is fairly uneventful, it is never boring, huh?!

  3. Love it! :D I always find your kids very entertaining...whether you like it or not! :)...But you seem to be a mom that sees the funny side the majority of the time...which makes mommyhood so much more enjoyable. :)
Like in Wed. night mtg. when my toddler bends far over in her chair to peer into the diaperbag and lets a couple rip. It struck me as amusing...but I was able to contain myself until she sat up with a big grin and a look of great accomplishment, then looked into my face and let out one of her big fake HA HA HA's. I nearly busted out laughing but tried to keep a straight face long enough to clamp a hand over her mouth and then quickly yanked her big brimmed hat over her eyes (much to her annoyment)so she wouldn't she me shaking with laughter. All the while thinking evil about who taught her that this was something funny let alone a great accomplishment. (I won't mention any names but it wasn't me) Then tried not to make eye contact with anyone until I regained my composure lest they smile at me I bust out laughing in the middle of meeting. (I have a problem with lack of laughter control):)

  4. you are funny and a good writer.. your girls are funny and your redramatizations make me laugh... the whole naked thing made me think of a story.. my kids aren't quite to the indignant nakie stage but i have a niece (prob. your girls age) who does the same thing.. her parents were telling me that they're constantly having to tell her to put clothes on... anyway- one day she's running around naked as usual -- she heads upstairs to the bedrooms, meandering naked, naked, naked-- she then notices that her dad's bedroom door isn't completely closed and he happens to be changing from work clothes into pjs (or something)--- she stands completely naked and aghastly and loudly announces that he should close his door all the way when he's changing.. :) just thought i'd share.. :) thanks for the entertainment..
i remember playing with you when we were 11 or 12 at your grandpa and grandmas (e and l)... :) fun.

  6. I LOVE the question about God getting wet! Reminds me of something I read re: explaining God's omniscience to kids. The author told his child God was everywhere, so the child asked, "Am I stepping on God?" The conversations that ensue can have great value.
