I love the sky

I never really thought about it before... but I really do love the sky. There's just something so huge about it. Of course, before we lived here, we lived in what I like to call the mucky-muck. Gray day, after gray day, after gray day, ad infinitum... I remember driving to work in the morning, and thinking day after day, how very gray it was at my first stoplight of the day. Despite my best efforts to not allow things like that to depress me, it really managed. Every once in a while, I could head east down SR500, and see the sunrise in all it's glory. But that was very rare. Here, I see the sunrise every morning with my coffee, from my kitchen window. Even though I (sadly) don't as of yet have a view of the Enchantments from my living room window, I still can experience the glory that is an evening sunset, since there are rarely that many clouds in the sky. There's just something about it. I finally had to stop myself from taking pictures of it, and just stand there, and enjoy it. There's something to be said for removing the camera from your hand, and just relishing the moment.

Let me introduce you to my friend, the sky...

This is the sky at night...
Sailor's delight? :-) I spotted this one evening while doing who-knows-what. The sky here is like that. It makes you wish constantly that you could permanently attach a camera to your hand. And, if you wait too long, you miss the moment... Just minutes after I took this picture, it was gone.
This picture is ok, but it actually was a moment I missed. Our camera case is very hard for my little fingers to get into, and I was driving. By the time I pulled up to one of our few stoplights and wrangled the camera, I had missed the fiery orangeness of it all, and was left with this. I do like the black clouds overhead tho, so it's good.Sometimes it is gray, I'll admit it. Mostly if it is gray, you are in the midst of a cloud, and you can't see at all (I do love me some fog), or it is a high, shiny overcast, that makes for a very dramatic landscape. The view we see, coming into town. I solemnly pledge to never lose my appreciation for it. How can this not take your breath away? And, how can anyone doubt that God exists when they see landscape and BLUE sky so spectacular? It's so ummm... Blue. I never liked blue before. Other than turquoise, which is in it's own sparkling class. But, blue as a general rule, never really did much for me. Now I wonder why. Here is a "Wenatchee in Spring" shot... Brilliant blue, set off by a very intense green. In a few months the green will be brown... you have to wallow in the green while you can. I love green. Although the brown has it's own kind of glory. Many would disagree, but I think it does. (this picture is not as unsafe as it looks.)Although brown leads to fire, and fire leads to burned sagebrush. A very desolate beauty. And a bit rattlesnakey. This land is currently for sale. I want it so badly... I never realized how much I AM NOT a tree person. Sadly, it is just a bit out of our price range. Plus, it would probably cost tens of tens of tens of thousands of dollars to get a well in here. (I'm not kidding, they have to go really deep, and have back-up water tanks. It's quite a process.) But, I can just imagine my off-the-grid house with solar panels and rain cisterns and year-round-garden solarium and so on and so forth. It makes the little hippie in me leap with joy, momentarily. The sky is just so HUGE up here... Just think, a pair of binoculars, and you could spot an ambush (meaning government officials coming to take your guns away) for miles. Amen. Ok, little gun-toting hippie, shut it down. Amen.Back to the sky... the landscape, and the sky, are so huge, every corner you drive around, you think it just can't get any bigger than where you are at that moment...Whether you're looking down from the top of the world... Up... (oops, a gratuitous Rovey shot slipped in)Over a lake...

Through the forest,Across a desolate meadow-type thing...Saying good night...Shadowed by summer clouds...The sky reminds me daily of so many things... to always keep my chin up... to always notice and appreciate beauty... to put sunblock on my children... and myself... even in the winter... to remember to speak aloud of God's love for us in creating the perfect atmosphere for 'hoomans' to live so my children will know, and to remember to tell them that HE rejoices in his creation He made for us as well... and above all else, to praise Him, for His mercies are new, every morning. What a lovely promise!

  1. What a nice post! I'm jealous that you get the sunrise in your kitchen window. I was just telling my husband last week that that was one of my big "musts" for a future house to settle down in.

  3. Ewww, a stinkin'hippie! Ewwww! (Really funny considering the copious amount of granola you just made)

If you haven't got out of the house today, take a walk and look at the enchantments- they're bright white with nary a cloud in the sky today.

My favorite 'scape back in the Couve was eastbound SR14 right before or after (can't remember)205 where Mt. Hood comes into view and is perfectly centered between the trees on either side of the hwy.

  4. That's beautiful! We used to live in Eastern WA 6 years ago, and I still miss the open spaces and rolling hills sometimes.

  6. Beautiful pictures! The blue is so intense, especially against the bright snow...I can almost smell the fresh, crisp air when I look at the pics:) Our kitchen & dining windows give us a view of the sunrise now too...there's nothing like seeing the sun come up over the hills, with a cup o' coffee in your hand! Mmmmm. Wish I could do that every day, as opposed to just on the weekends:)
