Painting Projects

Well, after my last post about the kids paintings, I got requests from a few family members for paintings... so here is our first batch that will be given away as gifts. I know I should not do this post until after they've already been unwrapped, but, oh well. I just can't wait. :-) Kiki and Debris love doing this so much. It's a pleasure (albeit a slightly stressful pleasure) to watch them paint.

Here are my rules for my kids paintings:

#1: I (or the person requesting the painting) control the colors. That way it actually looks like it will belong in the room. We don't want it to be tacky- we want it to be art.

#2: I do not direct what or how they paint at all. I have a hole in my tongue currently, it was that hard to keep from making suggestions. But, I really don't want to be a "Violet Beauregard" (name that movie) type of momma, so I bite my tongue, and let them paint away.

#3: If anyone who receives a painting from my children ever decides that they do not want it anymore, I WILL BUY IT BACK! You are strictly forbidden from selling it, painting over it, burning it, garage sale selling it, etc. I am a mother. It is my right to demand this, and I do. Amen.

Here are the pics of the painting process for Gramma G's Birthday present:

(I always give the canvasses a thorough base coat of the choice base color...)

"How's your painting going, Kiki?"

They insisted on sitting right smack next to each other, which meant that they were whacking each other in the head the whole time with the tail end of the brushes. I think I need to get shorter ones.Debris really gets into it. She has a very clear vision, and the slightest thing going wrong (like, say, if her sister decides to 'help' her) really appears to "ruin" her painting. She goes about fixing it immediately, and it's soon corrected back to her vision.

She really gets into it physically, too. :-)The blue hand was not happy with all the green on the paintbrush. It felt the need to lecture the green paintbrush about not ruining Debris' painting with too much green.

Kiki experimented with textures a lot today too, it was very fun to watch her precise, and delicate strokes with the paintbrush, vs. Debris wild abandon. And then, after a shower and a careful cleaning of everything to make sure we had purged the green and the blue, we did paintings for Auntie G and Uncle B's bathroom:

Debris was not going to paint (haha!) at first. Kiki couldn't wait to do these ones. She said she really likes the colors... interesting.

As I knew would happen, Debris changed her mind about not painting pretty quickly....Once again, right smack next to each other. The final products:

  1. Whoa, where are mine??? I believe that blue tube and red tube of paint should be used for some masterpieces that would go perfectly in Aunt Dhasa's house...

  5. Well, I nearly fell over when I uploaded the pics afterward, I took 102 pictures while they were painting. I think that might be overkill. So, if you need any more prints, all ya gotta do is ask. :-)Auntie G... I'm sure they could leave all manner of remnants around your house when we come down there... Like that new carpet of yours. I'm sure they'd be glad to fix that for ya. :-)

  6. You really are going to have some beautiful budding artists there under mommy's careful tutelage! I love the colors they are using. I would NEVER have thought to put an actual canvas in front of my young children. It was always papers. I wish I had. What a wonderful thing you are doing, Naomi!

Sorry I haven't been by to check on the little family lately. Had to drop in!
