While Frank is away...

the girls will play!

Frank is out gallavanting around North Central Washington for work purposes a few days this week. So, to keep things exciting while Daddy is gone, and because, apparently I've completely lost my mind, I decided we would make Valentine's Day cards this year.

Oddly enough, Debris, who paints with great precision, and attention to detail, went about this project with zero planning, and no neatness, whatsoever. She had fun tho, as long as I didn't attempt to get her to stick to rules, like "glue first, then glitter." Actually, she refused to call it glitter. "No momma," she said. "I hate that word glitter. They are SPARKLES!" Kiki, on the other hand, took to this project like white on rice, and did a beautiful job. She even signed her name inside... K-i-r-a-e. She's got all the letters down pat-I just can't convince her that they actually have to go in a certain order in order to spell her name. I would show you, but I can't, because she incorporated her own design element into these cards... "shutters" she called them. A piece of tissue paper, folded over and glued, only to be removed by the person who's card it is.
Here's a few of Kiki's... cute, huh?!

Brie's... darling, as well...

And, Kiki's person she cut out and decorated... the arms really give me the creeps.

Not to mention it's frown, and empty eyes. **shudder** I'm not sure I can sleep in the same house with this thing tonight.

So, now my gluey, glittery children are in the tub, and I'm left with a gluey, glittery kitchen. You can tell who's ultimately the top dog around here... Debris, while I was vacuuming up the glitter proceeded to entertain herself by swinging from the towel bar into the bathtub. I stopped the vacuum when I heard the horrible clatter of the towel bar crashing to the floor. Half a second later she yells, "It's okay Mom!! I'm alright and you can fix it! Daddy's not home yet, so it's okay!!!" Sigh...
On a slightly more adult note... I FINALLY went through my fabric collection today... sorted, organized, cleaned strings off, made plans with what I have, etc.... It was so fun! Check it out!

A lot of what I have is in fact small pieces, but I think I'll be able to make several summer clothes items for Kiki and Debris with what I have on hand... the rest is for quilting projects... whenever I start feeling discontent tho, I need to remember to go through my fabric collection and be thankful for all I have. I could piece together a lot of things with these scraps!! Not to mention the projects that I have whole cuts for!

  1. It cracks me up that brie already has words she dislikes. Reminds me of conversations all of us newby kids would have about words that annoyed us or sound wierd. Must be a newby thing. I can't wait to get my V-day card...i am getting one right? By the way...please don't lick my arm pit~Aunti G

  2. Oh you had me laughing out loud at your description of the creepy valentine! And yeah, you're right, he IS a little disturbing. lol

I got a kick out of your punkin parked right in the middle of the table working away. And what beautfiful fabrics you have. I love the bright colors. I have never pieced a quilt but it seems like such a creative outlet. And MY DH is out of town working, too. We spent our time running dogs at the park tonight. Too bad we aren't closer. I bet my big ones would have a ball with your little ones while we had a froo-froo coffee drink!

  3. That's hilarious! You're much more adventurous than I....we're just printing out some online cards and writing "to" and "from" on the backs. :) Love your fabric collection.....makes me feel itchy to start another project.

  4. How fun, making Valentines! I love the look on Brie's face, while holding the scissors open towards the camera...and the pic of all the paint on her face, with "sparkles" covering her hands...she really gets into it! Kiki's cards are so cute - and very creative, with the "shutters" to keep them private...awww:) We miss those two (and their mom and dad!:))! Hope we can see you soon!

  5. Hey, just wanted to wave and say hi....I was reading on TPW, and saw your comment about being homeschooled, and planning to homeschool your own. That is my story, too.
    Great Valentines!

  6. Brings back a lot of sweet memories when their daddy and aunties made valentines for Gramma and Poppop. Gramma still has all those precious cards...mom still has hers as well :-)

Fun fabrics...so much, too! Do the girls show any interest in it yet? The aunties were about Kiki's age when they began some handsewn projects...still have those, too, and still trying to figure out what some of them are!

  7. H!-I remember our sewing projects:) I think I made a million little mini-pillows back then! And a bunch of cross-stitched bookmarks, thanks to grandma! If you read this, mom, do you still have the half finished bunny that I started...and never finished?!

  9. Thanks for all the nice comments, guys!

I have offered to let them sew, but they have NO interest in hand sewing. Zero, zip, zilch. They actually are very offended when I suggest it. They want to use the machine. So, no sewing for them for a few more years! I can't leave them unsupervised with it on as it is. And, if I'm sewing they climb on my lap, and try to take over. There's been a few close calls already... scares me. They know enough to be dangerous.

  10. Hey Mandy! I don't think I saved that project, but I still have others from little you :-) I also have odd wooden projects from their daddy...I think they're plates...but wood?? I'll never throw them out, though.

  11. Don't you just love the mess kids leave behind? I have to agree, you have an amazing fabric collection! Fabric itself is such a motivator to start sewing. I just need to learn to use my machine! :)
