I am, as a general rule, not much of a "sweets" person. I prefer salty, and savory, for the most part. That being said, cookies would be a definite exception to that rule. I've always loved cookies. Just a small, soft and chewy bit of sweet, as a snack, or to top off a meal. And, I've always loved the concept of a cookie jar. It's homey and warm. It provides the soul who opens it with a handful of love and deliciousness, never mind the crumbs. But, I intensely dislike
kitschy cookie jars. I WILL NOT ever have a cookie jar in the shape of a cowboy boot, a rooster, a cow's head, etc, in my house, or on my counter. So, I'd pretty much given up on the idea of a cookie jar. Until I walked into a small shop in Afton, WY, and my heart tumbled, full on into a deep & passionate love, with this guy. (I feel very passionate about my kitchen, and all objects therein. I either love them, and keep and use them, or I
despise them, and discard them directly into the nearest trash receptacle. I really need to work on being more opinionated, I think.)
Meet my cookie jar:

Handsome, ain't he?

And, what's even better about this handsome man, is that he is beautiful on the inside, as well.

Now, my family loves this cookie jar as well. Frank dearly loves cookies, as any self respecting man should.
Kiki is fond of his offerings, but Debris really REALLY REALLY loves the cookie jar-in a close emotional attachement sort of way. On any given day, at about 10am or so, if I've fallen behind in my Oh-So-Important cookie baking duties around here, I usually hear a horrifying-ear-piercing-blood-curdling howl from the kitchen. Usually, I run in there expecting someone to be in bloody shreds. While it wouldn't surprise me for that to be the case at some point, most often, it is my little Debris, sitting on the counter, with the cookie jar lid in her hand, and tears rolling down her cheeks. "Momma!" she howls pitifully, "There's no cookies in the cookie jar!" It's truly heart-rending. So, I allow her to help me make cookies, and all is right in Debris' little world. Wouldn't it be nice if all it took to make us all happy was
snickerdoodles?
Want a cookie mom?

I'm just getting a cookie momma! (smiles charmingly!) (she dressed herself in this pic! Ya gotta love the black studded belt!)

A contemplative moment, in
jammies, with the cookie jar. And a bunch of knives. We're all about safety around here.

Have
snickerdoodle, will travel cheerfully. :-) Looking at the world through
snickerdoodle eyes. :-)
Have a great weekend! I'm going to go make some
snickerdoodles. :-)
I miss you all so much. Can't wait to taste your cookies again and hug those babies. Love you all!

Cookie jars are definatly an extremely important part of a kitchen. The cookies in them tell you a little about the bakers ability to bake as well. I must say that you and Ten's cookies are possibly the best cookies I have ever eaten. They are perfectly cooked through. Absolutely NO brown on the bottom and still soft! MMMM!!! I must say that when I reach into your cookie jar and its empty, I can hear a debri like shreak in my mind...Hugs~Greta
ReplyDeleteI like that jar and I really like your chocolate chip cookies. Not a snickerdoodle fan, but still like that jar...and dear funny melodramatic Debris!
ReplyDeleteit's good to see you've placed it at the remotest spot on the counter, so that whoever has it in their mind to partake of a cookie at least needs to go through some sort of aerobic exercise to reach this goal :-).
ReplyDeletei like the jar, btw.
mmh
Cute! I don't have a cookie jar, I think I need to get one!
ReplyDeleteSo one of my patients was telling me that she has a jar in her kitchen with a pad of paper next to it and every time her son says something worth remembering she writes it down and puts it in the jar. Just a thought since the girls frequently say incerdibly humerous things. Love you ALL!!! Auntie G
ReplyDeleteKiller jar!
ReplyDeleteCute post! And a very cute cookie jar indeed. We love cookies around here too...but they do disappear about as fast as they are made! I guess that's a good sign. You have a lovely kitchen, btw!
ReplyDeleteIf those aren't the CUTEST pictures and I'm coveting your cookie jar. Bet Ree, over at Pioneer Woman, would like to get her hands on it, too!
ReplyDeleteI especially love the picture where your little one has herself all shoved into the back of the counter under the cabinet. That's a classic.
